CHENNAI: About 40 bus passengers had a miraculous escape, when a government bus rammed into an electric transformer on East Coast Road on Thursday.The bus had left Puducherry for Chennai in the early hours and Ilavarasan (41), a native of Gingee, was behind the wheel. The vehicle was proceeding along ECR, when the driver lost control and rammed into a tree and then a transformer near the bus stand at Palavakkam. The windshield of the bus was damaged. As the transformer caught fire, passengers jumped out of the vehicle and escaped. On information, fire and rescue services personnel arrived on the spot and put out the flames. Adyar Traffic Investigation police are probing the incident.Two Run over by TrainTwo friends, Mark (25) of VOC Street in Nandavanam Mettur, Avadi, and Venkatesan (26) of Bazaar Nagar, were run over by an electric train near the railway station in Avadi. On information, Avadi railway police arrived on the scene and sent the bodies to the GGH. Jayapal, employee of a private company and resident of North Mada Street in Thiruvanmiyur, was proceeding to Kovalam with his friends Dhanapal (21) and Prabha Shanker (23). Near the bus stand at Neelangarai, the two-wheeler hit a road roller in front of them, killing Jayapal on the spot.
