BHUBANESWAR: Minister of Health and Family Welfare Prasanna Acharya on Wednesday launched e-Blood Bank Service under which real time data on blood banks can be accessed by public. The National Rural Health Mission, with the support of State Blood Transfusion Council and Odisha State AIDS Control Society, has developed the web-based system for on-line monitoring of all blood banks in the State. Functioning of all blood banks will be automated under the service which will provide inventory management, asset management, camp management, employee information management, licence renewal and auto-MIS report generation. The system will link all the blood banks in the State through Internet and make the information of blood stock available in the public domain for the knowledge of the public. Any person wanting to know availability of blood group in a particular blood bank will be able to access information through SMS, Internet and IVRS. Acharya said the initiative will go a long way in reducing the access time in acquiring blood from blood banks. Besides, transparency in the blood banking system will be achieved which is a significant step towards ensuring right to information. The ‘e-blood bank’ initiative is the first of its kind in the entire country. Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department, Anu Garg, MD of NRHM Pramod Meherda and Dr RK Nath, Additional Director of OSACS, spoke.
