Meerut: Police claim discrepancies in woman's allegations of gangrape, conversion
The victim had said that she was abducted on July 23, taken to Hapur where she was gangraped and forced to convert to Islam.

Meerut: Days after a 20-year-old in Meerut alleged gangrape and forced conversion, the police claim that there are discrepancies in her allegations. Police sources and the medical report indicate that the alleged victim had undergone a surgery to abort a complicated pregnancy.

Police say that the incision marks on the alleged victim's stomach show that the operation was performed by a trained doctor, who is being traced. Questions are also being raised by the police on the forced conversion claims.

Police claim an affidavit shows that she willingly converted to Islam. However, the victim has said she was forced to sign the affidavit.

The 20-year-old is the sole bread earner of her family of six people. She is now at a Meerut hospital. The Ministry of Home Affairs has also sought a report in this matter from the state government.

The victim had said that she was abducted on July 23 and taken to Hapur where she was gangraped. She said that she was later shifted to Muzaffarnagar from where she managed to escape. She said, "I was first taken to a Madrasa in Hapur and later moved to Muzaffarnagar. There were many other girls there but I couldn't meet them."

Victim's uncle also highlighted the delay in the filing of the FIR in the case. He said, "We only got to know when she called and told us on August 3. We went to file an FIR but they refused. After intervention from various organisations the FIR was filed."
