Technocity, a landmark in Kerala’s ITscape, is set for a full takeoff, with its master plan being ready. When fully commissioned, the picturesque technopolis on 450 acres of land in Pallippuram area of Thirvananthapuram district will be an integrated IT township, encompassing IT/ITES infrastructure, residential apartments, shopping malls with multiplexes, hospitals, hotels, educational institutions and other support facilities, eventually offering state-of-art infrastructure facilities for investors.
Technopark has already become the single largest employment provider in Kerala. It has around 270 companies providing direct employment to more than 37,000 highly paid IT/ITES professionals and 1,50,000 people indirectly.
Once the Technocity spread comes up according to the master plan, it will have around 30 million square feet built-up space with multiple buildings for its tenant organisations. The estimated investment would be around Rs 5,000 crore. The venture would focus on areas other than IT such as biotechnology, nanotechnology, high-end manufacturing and research and development.
Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (TCS) would be setting up its Global Learning Academy with an investment of around Rs 1,500 crore on the 82 acres of land already allotted to it. This Academy, which will be one of the largest in Asia, will be able to train and accommodate 16,000 IT professionals at a time.
Infosys, which already has a 50-acre Special Economic Zone in Technopark Phase II, will set up its second campus on 50 acres at Technocity.
Technopark would be developing a 50-acre campus for companies who want to set up their IT/ITES Units on the Technocity campus.
SunTec Business Solutions also plans to set up its campus on the 10 acres of land allotted to the firm. The Indian Institute of Information Technology & Management-Kerala (IIITM-K) is also expected to come in. The Asian School of Business which has its campus on Technopark Phase I is in the process of setting up its campus on the 10 acres of land in Technocity.
“Kerala would possibly become the epicentre of the IT industry in the coming years. Technocity’s planned model will also be showcased during the Emerging Kerala event in September and Gitex slated for October,” said K G Girish Babu, CEO, Technopark.
After the completion of this project, it is expected to generate more talent pool and provide immense job opportunities for the people of Kerala, while putting the State firmly on the global IT map.
