Haryana police on Wednesday registered a case against a man who assaulted his wife with a baseball bat over suspicion of an alleged extramarital affair. The video of the incident was widely shared and triggered outrage on social media.
In the video, which was shot by another person, the man can be seen approaching a car in which the accused’s wife was sitting with another man. The outraged accused confronts the duo and creates a ruckus on the scene.
The man on discovering his wife with another man first smashed the car window, then dragged the woman out of the vehicle and began to beat her with a baseball bat.
The video also shows hurling abuses at his wife and accusing her of cheating on him. Notably, the man who was with the woman inside the car did not come to the rescue and kept watching the commotion.
However, as the woman kept screaming, people in the park rushed to the spot and stopped the man from attacking her.
Police said that an FIR had been lodged against the man based on the complaint filed by the woman.
“A complaint of physical assault has been lodged by the wife against her husband. We will arrest the accused soon and appropriate action will be taken,” a police official told India Today TV
Last month, a woman was allegedly killed by her husband on suspicion of having an extramarital affair, and her body chopped into several pieces was found in a water tank in their house in Chattisgarh’s Bilaspur.
The victim, Sati Sahu, was killed by her husband, Pavan Thakur, some 1-2 months before her body parts were dumped in a water tank in his house in Uslapur, Bilaspur, police were quoted as saying by ANI.
