New Delhi: Filmmaker Shoojit Sircar and actor-turned-producer John Abraham wowed their detractors and fans for a light-hearted take on the issue of sperm donation in the National award- winning film 'Vicky Donor'.
The director-producer duo is back with another film, 'Madras Cafe', which has been making headlines for its so-called controversial content.
The movie, which is set against the backdrop of Sri Lankan civil war, revolves around the serious subject of terrorism and shows how the protagonist is caught in the political turmoil.
John Abraham plays an investigation officer, who is appointed by the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) to carry out hidden operations against the backdrop of the Sri Lankan Civil War. And Nargis Fakhri, who made her Bollywood debut with 'Rockstar' will be seen as a war correspondent.
Unlike the formulaic Bollywood projects, Shoojit offers a film which is new in its genre and subject even to the viewers. While Shoojit is popular for experimenting with the issues in his films, it is yet to seen if the viewers will accept 'Madras Cafe', considering it belongs to a different genre.
Will the 'espionage thriller' as Shoojit calls 'Madras Cafe', find several takers? Will John's film, which has been mired in controversies for its striking resemblance to real political events associated with civil war and the ideas of a rebel group, repeat the success of 'Vicky Donor'?
