A man who invoked God was killed by a lioness after he entered her enclosure in the Kiev zoo in Ukraine.
Kiev (Ukraine): A man was mauled to death after he entered the lion enclosure of the Kiev zoo, shouting "God will save me if he exists", a zoo official said on Monday.
"The man shouted 'God will save me, if he exists', lowered himself by a rope into the enclosure, took his shoes off and went up to the lions. A lioness went straight for him, knocked him down and severed his carotid artery," the official said.
The incident happened on Sunday evening when the zoo was packed with visitors.
Lions and tigers are kept in an "animal island" protected by thick concrete blocks.
They have been moved to a closed section of the zoo while an official investigation into the incident is underway.
