KOCHI: The CBI on Friday submitted before the Kerala High Court that the previous LDF Government had tried to prevent the CBI probe into the 2006 Thalassery Muhammed Fasal murder case. The statement further said that the former government had tried to impede the investigation into the cold-blooded murder of Muhammed Fasal, who had deserted the CPM and joined the NDF.Earlier, while handing over the investigation of the case to the CBI, the High Court had stated that a serious investigation by an impartial agency, which is not amenable to local politics, alone can bring out the truth. On Friday, the CBI submitted that the previous LDF government had filed an appeal before the division bench of the High Court to prevent the investigation. Later on, the government approached the Supreme Court and filed a Special Leave Petition, which was dismissed, the CBI said. The CPM also attempted to divert the case proceedings by alleging that the RSS was behind the murder. The CPM leaders and their supporters were the conspirators behind the murder, the CBI stated. The CBI officials told Express that the two CPM leaders involved in the murder had filed  anticipatory bail petitions, with a motive to derail the investigation. The petitions were filed a month ago. The investigation into the Fasal murder case has been delayed as it was adjourned four times owing to various reasons.A Gruesome KillerKochi: According to CBI officials, Kodi Suni, who is reportedly behind the murder of TP Chandrasekharan, is the first accused in the Fasal murder case. Kodi Suni and two other professional killers were earlier arrested by police. Later, the magistrate court granted bail to Kodi Suni.“He is a professional killer, who is suspected to have links with the CPM. However he was not willing to admit it. When the CBI summoned him to the CBI office in Thiruvananthapuram for interrogation, he arrived in a luxury car. When we contacted him over phone once, he was out boating at Kumarakom,” CBI officials said. “Killing by slashing the victim across his face, has been identified as the signature trait of Kodi Suni. Also, he uses only sword to commit the crime, they said. Suni is involved in more than 30 criminal cases and is convicted in four cases. While handing over the probe of the Fasal murder case to the CBI, the High Court had said the three accused were professional killers and they must have been definitely engaged by somebody owing allegiance to the CPM, to do away with Fasal. The court had said the police story of the recovery of weapons from the compound adjacent to Pankaj Talkies a few months after the crime, is too good to believe.
