HYDERABAD: The famed Balapur Ganesh laddu fetched a record bid of Rs. 5.45 lakh during the open auction held on Sunday as against Rs. 5.35 lakh last year. In the open auction, where 18 bidders took part, witnessed by huge number of people, Kolan Mohan Reddy and his brother Kolan Krishna Reddy bagged the priced 21-kg laddu by bidding Rs. 5.45 lakh. The big laddu was auctioned before commencement of the centralised Ganesh immersion procession. Last year, Kodali Sridhar had bid `5.35 lakh for the laddu.The auction saw stiff competition, with bids reaching up to Rs. 5.35 lakh among the top four bidders. The Reddy family had made the highest bid and took possession of the laddu previously five times, since auctioning of the laddu began in 1994. After bagging the priced laddu, a beaming Kolan Mohan Reddy told reporters he would distribute the prasad to family members, friends, villagers and also sprinkle the prasadam in agricultural fields so that Lord Ganesha shower his blessings with a bumper harvest. “Since last two years, I did not participate in the auction at the request of people. This year I wanted to bag the laddu at all costs,” he added.The auctioning of laddus kept at various Ganesh pandals in the city seems to have caught on. The money generated through the auctions is usually used for development of the localities. A day of whopping laddu auctions Taking the Ganesh laddu auction to new heights, the laddu of a pandal at Ameerpet was sold for a whopping Rs. 9.10 lakh on Sunday. The Ganesh idol installed at the VVR Housing office at Ameerpet and won by one Srinivasa Rao, who bid Rs. 9.10 lakh to win the laddu. Another laddu at Badangpet went for Rs. 6.20 lakh.
