Kyon ki in psychiatric fix
Kyon ki in psychiatric fix
Just days after its release, Kyon ki is in the middle of a 'psychiatric controversy.' Psychiatrists term portrayal of patients as derogatory.

New Delhi: If psychiatrists have their way, some portions of the Salman Khan starrer Kyon Ki may have to be deleted.

Counsellor's Association of India has approached the National Human Rights Commision, as it feels that the film portrays mentally ill patients in a derogatory light.

Counsellors argue that the film that casts Salman Khan as a schizophrenic convict contains two objectionable instances.

The first of these is when the asylum?s security guards physically abuse some of the patients and the other being that these patients are stereotyped as murderers and rapists.

The character of Om Puri, who is a doctor in the film, is also under scrutiny. He is portrayed as a doctor who believes that patients must be drugged and confined.

However, film's dialouge writer, Sanjay Chel maintains that on the whole, the film in no way offends mentally ill patients or shows them in bad light.

Chel explains that the parts of the film that are being called "negative" are actually meant to make audiences understand the reality. Some amount of negativity needs to be shown.

What's your reaction?
