CHENNAI: With support for the anti-graft movement led by Anna Hazare gathering momentum in Chennai, the Tamil cinema industry will organise a day-long token fast on Tuesday in a show of solidarity.“The fast will begin at 9 am on Tuesday at the South Indian Film Chamber and Commerce Federation office and end at 5 pm,” said director/producer KR, one of the organisers of the fast. “Anna Hazare has got support from all corners and we felt we also should stand by him and make people more aware about this,” he added. Actor-cum-director Cheran, said, “Even if corruption is minimal in the cinema industry, we also have to bribe when approaching the authorities to get permission for shootings. As a normal human being, I also face corruption at different levels, right from admitting my children at school.” Chitra Lakshmanan, director-cum-producer, said they discussed the issue for three days and finally decided to organise the fast on Tuesday. While nobody had been personally invited as it is an open fast for anyone in the cinema industry who supports the cause to join, organisers said that they expected more than 1,000 artistes and technicians.
