Police on Tuesday arrested 30 Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) activists, including its MLAs for defying curfew and hold a protest march in Jammu.
More than 100 activists of the outfit on Tuesday defied curfew in the Gandhi Nagar area of the city and held a protest march demanding President's rule in the state. A large contingent of police intercepted and stopped the JKNPP rally, led by its president and MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia, when they tried to move towards Bikram Chowk on Tuesday. The activists after being stopped, staged a dharna and courted arrest.
Later, the protesters were released. Addressing the dharna, party Chairman and MLA Harsh Dev Singh refuted the National Conference-Congress government's claims of restoring the law and order in the state back to normalcy.
"With curfew having been clamped in almost all districts of Jammu, the government's claims of law and order back to normalcy were highly absurd and ridiculous," Singh said.
