BANGALORE: The High Court on Friday directed the state government to maintain status quo on its decision to close down Kannada schools following a public interest litigation by litterateurs seeking to quash the gazette notification in this regard.Counsel for the petitioners and senior advocate Ravi Verma Kumar submitted that thousands of students will be deprived of education if the schools are closed and sought directions to the state government to implement the Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, with immediate effect and to frame rules under the Act.Hearing the petition, the division bench comprising acting Chief Justice Vikramjit Sen and Justice A S Bopanna directed the state government to maintain status quo till the next hearing and adjourned the matter for further hearing.
