The ultimatum given by anti-corruption campaigners to Karnataka Lokayukta Justice Bhaskar Rao, who is facing corruption charges, to step down has ended.
The activists have now planned to launch widespread agitations, even as they want the state government to order a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe against Rao.
The anti-corruption campaigners, including former Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde, have also announced a protest rally. Justice Rao has been linked to an alleged bribery racket.
The activists had given two days time to Justice Rao to step down as the Lokayukta, even as the state government came out with an amended Lokayukta bill.
Rao's son Ashwin was named as an accused in the multi-crore blackmailing and extortion scam.
Ashwin allegedly summoned government officials to the Lokayukta's office to demand money and avoid raids.
The Lokayukta's office has been under a cloud over the past month, with allegations of serious corruption against it.
