After acting in America for 10 years and then making her mark in Telugu movies, Lakshmi Manchi, daughter of veteran actor Mohan Babu, is all set to enter B-town with Ram Gopal Varma's 'Department'.
"Ramu contacted me through a text message asking me if I wanted to do 'Department' and I said yes," shares Lakshmi, who plays the role of Sanjay Dutt's wife in the film. "Most of my scenes are with Sanjay and it has been great working with him. He is such a gentleman — very humble and down to earth," confesses the actress.
Rana Daggubatti, who is also a part of this film, is a dear friend of hers, says Lakshmi. "Rana and I have been good friends and I am happy to share work space with him. There are times when we end up talking in Telugu on the sets," reminisces the actress, who is currently also producing a big-budgeted multi-starrer film titled 'Oo Kodathara Ulikki Padathara', with her brother Manoj Manchu and Balakrishna.
Ask her what she prefers — acting or making films and her reply is prompt, "I love it all. But if I have to make a choice, I will choose acting because I am most peace when I am acting." She further adds, "I love getting in and out of different characters. I find it very interesting and it keeps my life exciting."
Lakshmi had earlier acted in RGV's low budget Telugu flick 'Dongala Mutha' and she believes that RGV's set is like an actor's platform where the actor is given complete freedom. "I have worked with Ramu before and it has been a great experience. His set is very organised and professional," adds Lakshmi.
The film stars Amitabh Bachchan as a gangster-turned-politician and Sanjay Dutt and Rana Daggubati as encounter specialists.
