MANGALORE: Though Kannada had guided the whole world through its literature, its impact was reduced after the forced adoption of the English language, lamented Kannada writer and Jnanapith awardee Chandrashekhar Kambar here on Sunday.Delivering the valedictory speech at the three-day-long national level Kannada literary conference Alva’s Nudi Siri, at Vidyagiri in Moodbidri he said, even the fundamental needs were being taught in English language. Hence, inspite of a huge number of literary works in Kannada, the Kannada language had not seen any progress, he added. In his presidential address, Nudi Siri chairperson M M Kalaburgi said that there was a need for reducing the gap between writing and talking in the same language. Hence, litterateurs must write their literary works in the talking language instead of opting for rigid text. Kalaburgi also opined that, all the litterateurs should not limit themselves to their own literary works, but they should be a part of the society. The administrators, he said, should respect their opinion of the language.Closed schools must be reopened: He welcomed the decision of the government not to close the Kannada medium schools due to low attendance. The government must re-open the schools closed down recently, he demanded.
