CHENNAI: With Jingle bells in the distance and brightly coloured stars slowly starting to light up the city at night, it is only fitting that the music we look forward to at Christmas be ushered in with a warm welcome or in true X’mas spirit, ‘Deck the halls with boughs of holly’. The Unwind Center of Music is to present a ‘Central Festival 2011 — Contemporary Christmas Concert’. Saroop Oommen of the Unwind Centre says, “This is the third year that we’ve chosen this theme of songs that are Christmas songs, but are for everyone.” He adds, “A lot of these compositions have a message of celebration and hope that are more practical in today’s scenario.” Watch out for X’mas favourites such as Santa Claus is coming to town, Christmas Dream (Andrew Lloyd Webber) and I’ll be home for Christmas (Rascal Flatts). The performances will include 45 new voices from the Unwind vocal students, the Chennai Glee Club (led by Freddy Koikaran and Aparna Nagesh), Krimson Avenue (Prithvi, Sid and Sujan) and  a capella group ‘Toned & Turned’ (Harshita Krishnan & friends from MOP). There will also be performances by special guests — Nrithya Andrews and Samcy Philip. No Christmas concert is complete without carols. Saroop says, “There will be carol singing session at the end for the audience to join in as well.” (The concert will be held at Museum Theatre at 7.15pm today. For details, contact 9841379494)
