New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued notice to the Delhi Police on a bail plea of former Haryana minister Venod Sharma's son Manu Sharma, undergoing life imprisonment for murdering model Jessica Lall in April 1999.
While issuing the notice, a bench headed by Chief Justice KG Balakrishnan admitted Sharma's appeal challenging the Delhi High Court verdict, which convicted him in the case.
The bench also issued notice on the bail plea of co-accused Amarjeet Singh Gill alias Tony Gill, who was sentenced by the high court to four years' rigorous imprisonment for destruction of evidence.
The court issued notice to the police on a petition by yet another co-accused Vikas Yadav, who had pleaded for suspension of his sentence. Like Gill, Yadav too was awarded a four-year jail term, for destruction of evidence and shielding the accused in the case.
The court posted the various pleas of the three convicts for further hearing in the first week of April.
