Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa launched the full-time annadhanam scheme at the Sri Ranganathaswamy temple by serving food to the devotees here on Thursday.

She said the scheme of annadhanam in temples across the state was launched during her previous government and the scheme was extended to 468 temples.

In two temples, full time meals would be provided and devotees would get quality food from 8 am to 10 pm. The scheme was launched at the Aayirangaal mandapam in Sri Ranganathaswamy temple where the devotees were made to sit in two rows.

After the public meeting, the Chief Minister straight away drove to the mandpam and served the food items for the first seven devotees including three women.

“The food items were tasty and it becomes more delicious when the Chief Minister herself serves all the items on a banana leaf”, said Govindaraj and Geetha, a couple from Srirangam.

As soon as the Chief Minister served the food, Alamelu, one of the devotees was seen informing it to her relatives by her mobile phone even without starting to eat.

“How can I forget this moment when the Chief Minister served the delicious food items one by one. I did not waste time to inform it to my friends and relatives”, the Chief Minister .

When the CM inquired about the food quality and taste to the devotees, Kasthuri and Guru Viswanathan couple who along with their 11 year old son Arjun were present, they were unable to contain their joy, while answering her.

All the devotees were distributed with tokens in advance and on the first day about 2,000 tokens were distributed to the devotees of Sri Ranganathaswamy temple, Srirangam.
