Acting on the specific intelligence input, Rashtria Rifles and Special Task Force launched a cordon and search operation in Nagnigarh area of Doda early on Tuesday, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Doda-Udhampur Range, L Mohanty said.

An encounter took place in the area in which Hassan Pakistani, a close aid of JeM chief Azhar Masood was killed, he said.

Hassan Pakistani was operational commander of Kishtwar region.

The spokesman for 16 corps, Col D K Badola, however, said that the terrorist has been identified as Hassan Baswa of Godiyal Khalid village in Lahore.

He denied that Hassan was a JeM commander.
