New Delhi: Everyone loves a good story. Better still for some, if it’s a ghost tale. Spooky stories that abound the Indian countryside have been long been popular among many a story connoisseur.
But the goings-on in a district jail in Madhya Pradesh out do a number of ghost stories that your granny must have narrated.
The authorities of Sendhwa Sub-Jail were forced to chop off the branches of a neem tree as inmates allegedly kept seeing “ghosts” on them!
''The inmates had made complaints of that nature and were relieved after the chopping,'' Sendhwa's Sub-Divisional Officer (Revenue) Vishnu Kamalkar was quoted by news agencies as saying.
Kamalkar quoted jail authorities as saying that an undertrial fell ill and had to be hospitalised after one such “harrowing” experience.
He narrated the harrowing experience as such: Undertrial Bhagirath suddenly climbed the tree, after having breakfast on February 15, and attempted to hang himself while saying that he saw ghosts.
Most of the 105 inmates in the jail are tribal, illiterate and superstitious.
