BANGALORE: Siddharth Mallya has a professional streak in him that he hasn’t revealed much. Surely, Vijay Mallya’s son can become a good TV personality should he chose to for professional reasons rather than monetary. For he doesn’t need to.When Siddharth came for the media briefing during IPL players’ auction in Bangalore, he answered all questions with a lot of confidence and forthrightness. It was evident that he could wield the microphone to good effect. Siddharth has proved that while acting as an interviewer/moderator his cricket team’s website. He has been talking to RCB players individually and collectively for the site and one must have done a fairly good job of it.Siddharth has had sessions with Chris Gayle, Dilshan Tilakeratne individually. His interaction with three paceman from Karnataka, Vinay Kumar, Abhimanyu Mithun and Sreenath Aravind was quite interesting. He made the players talk about their career, personal lives, their cricketing goals and also had each of them say something about the other.Siddharth was able to bring the lighter as well as hidden aspects of their lives and it was very much evident that he had done some elaborate homework.“I’m told that the three of you go to the same hotel and order the same lunch before every game,” he asked Aravind as they were taken by surprise. “Okay, all you guys are unmarried I suppose,” he asked. The trio nodded. “But are you single,” he shot back as the three of them blushed. “I am single,” said Mithun. Aravind and Vinay said they weren’t. But Siddharth did not probe further. His performance for the RCB website is better than what is witnessed on many news channels, including the official IPL broadcaster as mike-wielders ask needless questions and bore the viewer and the player, coach or official themselves. He does not have to compete with them nor grab their jobs but there is no doubt that he is doing far more accomplished work than many experienced ones. RCB surely has some unique talent in its ranks.
