No untoward incident was reported in Kandhamal district on the third day of the Martyrs’ week being observed by the Maoists in five states including Odisha.

The impact was nil in the Maoist-infested areas of Kotagarh, Tumudibandha, Bamunigaon, Daringbadi and Raikia of the district. No posters or banners were found in these areas and it was business as usual for shops and other establishments.

While Government buses remained off the road as a precautionary measure, private vehicles could be seen plying on most routes.

Meanwhile, district police remained alert to avert any subversive activity of the Maoists with personnel of CRPF, IRB, OSAP, SOG and SPO deployed at vulnerable areas of the district.

“We are keeping a strict vigil on the movement and activities of the Maoists,” said in-charge SDPO Arjun Barik. Patrolling and vehicle checking have been intensified with the CRPF engaged in combing operations.

Sambalpur: Maoist posters were found in Nuapada and Paikmal on Monday, third day of the Martyrs’ Week.

The posters were found at the Jamseth village and along the State Highway at Mandosil under Paikmal police limits besides red flags at Bartunda village.

The banners called upon people to observe the Martyrs’ Week.

Similarly, banners were found hanging on both sides of the main chhak of Belardana village under Sialati gram panchayat in Komna block.

In the banners, the ultras urged people to launch an armed struggle for their rights over ‘Jal, Jamin and Jungle’ and protest ‘Operation Green Hunt.’

While no untoward incident has been reported from any part of the district, road construction works have come to a standstill.
