‘’We are looking into various aspects including corruption at the reserve inspector level in all battalions. We will provide counselling for the staff,’’ director-general, APSP Battalions, Damodar Goutam Sawang told a press conference here on Monday.
“We are taking all the measures to bring in new policies for the benefit of APSP constables. The existing staff crunch is leading to pressure on the personnel and we will recruit 4,000 personnel the notification for which will be released shortly. The recruitment will be completed within a year. It will help the staff discharge their work without any pressure,’’ Sawang said. He also promised several measures for the welfare of constables and their families. Stating that some persons had instigated the protests, Sawang said that they had identified them but refused to reveal who they were.
“We have at least 15 battalions across the state who assist police during emergency situations. Currently, there is a system that the battalions are divided into various groups. In the eighth battalion, there are six companies, of which three are in the city and three in other parts of the state. As per new plans, we introduce rotation system in which some companies will work in the city and within 200 km of the headquarters. It will help the constables spend time with their families,’’Sawang said.
He said that some reserve inspectors were involved in corruption in granting leave to constables.
