Indore-Patna Train Accident: Victims' Kin to Get Rs 14.5 Lakh Compensation
A compensation of Rs 12.5 lakh was announced for families of those killed in the Indore-Patna Express train accident on Sunday. Those injured in the early morning tragedy would receive a total of Rs 2 lakh from the Centre and government of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

New Delhi: A compensation of Rs 15.5 lakh was announced for families of those killed in the Indore-Patna Express train accident on Sunday.

Those injured in the early morning tragedy would receive a total of Rs 2.5 lakh from the Centre and government of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

At least 90 people were killed and 76 seriously injured in the accident near Kanpur.

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu announced Rs 3.5 ex-gratia for families of those killed and Rs 50,000 for those injured while Prime Minister Narendra Modi said victims’ kin would receive Rs 2 lakh and the injured would get Rs 50,000 from the PM's Relief Fund.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minster Akhilesh Yadav said families of victims would receive ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh and those injured would get Rs 50,000. His Madhya Pradesh counterpart Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for victims’ kin and Rs 50,000 for those who sustained injuries.

Later in the evening, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar too announced compensation — Rs 2 lakh for the kin of those killed and Rs 50,000 for the injured.

Four coaches of the train -- S1, S2, S3, S4 -- were badly damaged in the mishap that took place at around 3am near Pukhraya. Most of the passengers were jolted out of their sleep to find themselves among mangled remains of the bogies.
