New Delhi: India and Pakistan principally agreed during the recent foreign secretary talks in New Delhi, to start work on issuing permits to fishermen so that they were able to probe their identity if they mistakenly cross coastal borders and get arrested.
Also there will be no prosecution of the fishermen.
As per the agreement Pakistan will set free around 400 Indian prisoners who have completed their term, Daily Times reported.
Pakistan is also hoping to secure the release of 200 of its nationals languishing in Indian jails in a prisoner swap on December 25.
Islamabad has gained consular access to its prisoners detained in several Indian prisons and hopefully will get most of the detainees, including fishermen, to be released on December 25, the paper quoted Foreign Office spokeswoman Tasneem Aslam as saying.
She, however, was unable to give the exact number of Pakistani and Indian nationals languishing in each other's jails.
Under the proposed plan, India and Pakistan will swap the detained fishermen during the flag meetings held regularly between the border security forces and coastal authorities.
