Congress high command would take a decision on who the next KPCC President will be, UDF Convenor, PP Thankachan said on Thursday.
The post had fallen vacant following the elevation of Ramesh Chennithala as Home Minister in the Oommen Chandy cabinet.
"KPCC presidents are not appointed on the basis of group or regional considerations, but it is the high command which takes a decision on whom to appoint, Thankachan told reporters in Kochi.
Union minister of state for Home Mullappally Ramachandran had opined that a person from the "Malabar region" should be made KPCC president to strengthen the Congress in the state's northern region.
There are several people who are eligible to be appointed to the post. Party high command would take a decision on who should be appointed the next KPCC president, he said.
Aiming to boost the UDF prospects in the coming 2014 Lok Sabha polls, KPCC President Ramesh Chennithala joined the Oommen Chandy government on Wednesday.
A decision on giving a berth to Ganesh Kumar, former minister of the Kerala Congress (B), who was forced to resign last year following allegations, would be taken after the Lok Sabha polls, he said.
