Kolkata: India's ace pistol shooter and bronze medal winner at the Incheon Asian Games Heena Sidhu on Tuesday said Abhinav Bindra's recent elevation to the ISSF athlete's committee would be an effective grievance redressal.

Hailing the move, Heena said: "It's only because of his achievements that he's the chairman of the committee that comprises of Olympic champions."

The country's only individual Olympic gold medallist, Bindra, was recently elected chairman of International Shooting Sport Federation's (ISSF) athletes committee.

"It takes the redressal of the players and communicates it to the top bosses in the ISSF. He will play a very important role with the new rules or in the technical changes.

He's really the good person to communicate the athletes side of the view to the administration," Heena told reporters on the sidelines of a felicitation ceremony here.

Terming it a stable atmosphere for the Indian shooters, she said: "Because of our Commonwealth and Asian Games performance we're seen very highly. Also we have some experienced shooters as coaches. We have quite a stable environment in shooting right now."

She said her next target was to qualify for the Rio Olympics for which she's focussed on the qualifiers next year.

"At the moment, I'm taking a break but it's the Olympic qualifiers, that's the World Cup next year which I'm concentrating on. First and foremost target would be Olympic qualifiers.

"We just had the nationals in December, I'm almost taking a rest right now."
