Pakistani American terrorist David Coleman Headley on Thursday revealed in a Mumbai court that Ishrat Jahan, who was killed in an alleged fake encounter in Gujarat, was a Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist.
While the revelation came as a vindication for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which ruled Gujarat when Ishrat Jahan died in 2004, the Congress attacked it saying Headley's claims had no bearing on the fact that the encounter was fake.
Here's who said what:
Musarrat Jahan, Ishrat Jahan's sister:
My sister was innocent. Her death was part of a larger conspiracy involving big names.
Vrindra Grower, lawyer of Ishrat Jahan's family:
Headley's version is not evidence in accordance with Indian law, as he was given a "multiple choice question" by a "Padma Shree" lawyer.
Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State for Home Affairs:
It is good that everything is coming out clearly. This is good for our agencies.
Manish Tewari, Congress spokesperson:
If David Headley has made some assertions, let them be investigated, but attempts should not be made to get political mileage out of it, as it is against the Indian law to stage fake encounters.
Shahnawaz Hussain, BJP spokesperson:
Those who called Ishrat Jahan the daughter of India should offer apology. We stand vindicated.
