KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Wednesday directed all the District Collectors to examine the claims made by various schools regarding the construction of toilets and urinals.A Division Bench comprising Justice Thottathil B Radhakrishnan and Justice C T Ravikumar passed the order while considering a petition filed by the secretary of the Kerala Sastra Sahitya Parishad, Vadakkanchery unit, in March 2009, citing lack of basic facilities in schools.The court directed that the Assistant Education Officers should consider the claims made by the schools regarding the toilets and urinals and certify them. Thereafter the school authorities shall present the matter for consideration to the district collectors. The court asked the collectors to appoint an official not below the rank of a Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) to conduct a site inspection. The court also directed the Director of Public Instructions, DDE, DEO and AEO to act on the reports of the official and ensure that the basic facilities are made available.
