Washington: India on Sunday said its embassy in Washington has been in touch with the US National Security Council on the tragic incident of firing inside a Gurudwara in Wisconsin that left at least seven people dead.
Indian Ambassador to the US Nirupama Rao said that an official has been deputed to rush to the site to ascertain the situation on-the-spot.
Upto seven people were killed and several others injured when at least three gunmen opened fire at the Gurudwara in Wisconsin in a coordinated attack during morning prayers.
US President Barack Obama was also briefed by his counter-terrorism advisor John Brennan on the situation and the White House is seized of the matter, US officials said.
"We have seen reports on the tragic incident earlier on Sunday of firing at a group of worshipers in a Gurudwara in the Milwaukee suburb of Oak Creek, Wisconsin," Rao said in a statement.
"The Embassy is seized of the situation and has been in touch with the National Security Council in Washington," she said.
Rao said the Indian Consulate General in Chicago too has been in close touch with the local authorities to monitor the situation.
