Ahmedabad: The cyclone threat to coastal areas of Saurashtra in Gujarat seems to be waning.
The alert level at ports has been scaled down from nine to six, after the magnitude of the cyclone was found to be decreasing.
The cyclone is expected to hit Kutch around noon.
However, despite the decreased threat level, the state administration is taking no chances. Fishing continues to be suspended along the Saurashtra coastline till further notice.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with top officials to chalk out an action plan.
Several people living along the coastline in Kutch and Jamnagar districts have been shifted to safer places, officials said on Saturday evening.
"We have sounded an alert in Kutch as this region along with some districts of Saurashtra is expected to fall in the path of cylcone which is now about 280 kms south-west of Porbandar," District Collector, Kucth, Sanjay Dwivedi said.
"A nine number signal indicating 'great danger' has been sounded for the ports (Kandla and Mundra) located in Gulf of Kutch and others on the coastal areas," Dwivedi added.
Around 35 chemical plants in Kutch district have also been told to suspend operations, officials said.
