TV host Gaurav Kapoor is all set to host the first season of reality show Minute to Win it, an Indian version of the original show by the same name that is quite popular abroad. The show provides an opportunity to contestants to complete certain tasks using everyday household items in order to win the prize money.
But after watching reality shows like Khatron ke Khiladi, Wipeout and its likes that involve adrenaline-rushing, dare-devil stunts, will the Indian audience really be interested in watching something that revolves around mundane tasks using commonplace items? Gaurav, who has in the past hosted the IPL and other reality shows like Big Switch, admits, "I have not really thought about this, but I think the audience need not necessarily have fun at the sight of seeing people breaking their bones. I hope the audience is not sadistic, but if that's the case, may be next season, I will be back with a hockey stick to beat up the winner!"
Ask him if he will host the upcoming season of IPL as well, and he laughs, "If not me, then who else?" With a pause, he adds, "Right now, the channel and I are in talks. We are negotiating. The channel is like my family now."
If given an opportunity to actually participate in a reality show, which one would he choose? Pat comes the reply, "It has to be Kaun Banega Crorepati. It would be a thrill to sit opposite Mr Bachchan on the hot seat. Do I have the IQ to ace the show? We will have to wait and watch."
But how does it feel to be speaking live from a cricket match and then conduct a reality show on TV? "It's all real! A reality show is also kind-of live. There are no re-takes and the reaction time is spontaneous. Both are high energy games and a lot of money is at stake."
