A meeting of Ganesh Mandapa organisers was held at the exhibition grounds here on Sunday to discuss various issues faced by the organisers of Ganesh festival, that will be held from September 19 to 29.
The Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi general secretary Dr Bhagavanth Rao said that the police officials were creating problems in the name of permissions. They never had to take permissions for the pooja in the last 33 years.
Only for the past four years have the police been imposing restrictions. Rao alleged that officials were threatening utsav organisers by opening rowdy sheets and booking cases under the Communal Rights Act.The police were bowing to pressure by the MIM.
However, during Ramzan, the police had co-operated and even provided them with all facilities,Rao said. He accused the police of trying to foil their meeting and imposing section 144. He demanded that the government instruct the police not to create restrictions and urged it to supply free power to Ganesh mandapas.
He said 50,000 Ganesha idols were likely to be installed in the city. Sri Paripurnananda Swami, BJP leader Baddam Bal Reddy, Bandaru Dattatreya and others took part in the meeting
