CHENNAI: The Freemasons observed the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the Regional Grand Lodge of Southern India on Friday. Formed in 1961, The Regional Lodge of Southern India, proved to be the backbone of the Grand Lodge of India for its endeavours during the last fifty years.Gopalkrishna Gandhi, the Former Governor of West Bengal, was the Chief Guest of the celebration. With his trademark wit and diction, he gave a call to the Freemasons to give a new meaningful road for themselves, and to make them relevant to the society of this 21 st century.He said, “ At this century I think it is relevant that Freemasons should have a self -critical inquiry about their mission to the society. Common man doesn’t appreciate ambiguity. They want to figure out the riddle of Freemasons.” He also suggested that women be admitted as full equal members of the Lodge, like men.M.S.Ramanujan, Postmaster General, Chennai City region, released a special postal and cancellation for the occasion. The regional Grand Lodge of Southern India is now headed by R.W.Bro.R.Sushil Raj, under this guidance they were able to raise funds close to ` 2 crore, for rural electrification this year.
