New Delhi: In a major breakthrough in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks case, a former Pakistani investigating officer has admitted that the attacks were planned in and launched from Pakistan.
"The 26/11 attacks were planned and launched from Pakistan. Pakistan must face the truth and amdit mistakes," Tariq Khosa, former Director General of Pakistan's Federal Investigating Agency (FIA), wrote in an article in Pakistan daily Dawn.
Khosa revealed that the ten terrorists involved in the attack were trained in camps in Thatta in Sindh, adding that the casings of explosives used in the attacks were recovered from the camps. Khosa also revealed that the trawler used by the terrorists to travel to Mumbai was brought back to Pakistan.
Khosa admitted that Ajmal Kasab, who was hanged by Indian government in November 2012, was a Pakistani national, vindicating India's stand.
Below are Khosa's revelations as listed in his article in Dawn:
# That Ajmal Kasab was a Pakistani national, whose residence, schooling and his entry into a banned militant organisation were established by the investigators.
# That the LeT terrorists were trained near Thatta in Sindh and from there, they set off by sea for Mumbai. The training camp was identified and secured by the investigators. The casings of the explosives used in Mumbai were recovered from this training camp and duly matched.
# The fishing boat used by the terrorists for hijacking an Indian trawler in which they sailed to Mumbai, was brought back to harbour, then painted and concealed. It was recovered by the investigators and linked to the accused.
# The engine of the dinghy abandoned by the terrorists near Mumbai harbour contained a patent number through which the investigators traced its export from Japan to Lahore in Pakistan and then to a sports shop in Karachi. An LeT-linked militant purchased it from the shop along with the dinghy. The investigators followed the money trail and were able to establish the links to the accused who was then arrested.
# The operations room in Karachi, from where the entire massacre was directed, was also identified and secured by the investigators. The communications through Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) were unearthed.
# The alleged commander and his deputies were identified and arrested.
# A couple of foreign-based financiers and facilitators were arrested and brought to face trial.
