BANGALORE: Playgrounds are always visualised as bursting with children running around everywhere, playing hopscotch and the air filled with the cries of joy as they swing back and forth. The Basavangudi playground has never seen such activity and they are now, asking the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for help so that the ground sees its sunshine and brightens itself by opening itself to children and visitors.Previously present in the Kempegowdanagara ward and presently in Basavangudi, the playground was ordered to be a public park by the erstwhile BMP in the year 1976.Eleven years after it was occupied by the BBMP, it was once deemed to be a public playground by the High Court. The youth of Udayabhanu Kalasangha played an important role in the same. The illegal occupation of the same has led to interference by the BBMP again. The founder of Udayabhanu Kalasangha, M Narasimha, said, “Both the civil court and the high court have declared it to be a public park. The Palike have helped us in establishing that fact.”A meeting with MB Harichandra, joint commissioner (South) and the deputy commissioner (Property), Mujibullah, has led to talks about the development of the playground.A request has been made by them to the BBMP to conserve it.
