Secretary of the Department of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) of
Government of Odisha Nikunja Sundaray has suggested the industrial units to
focus not just on the productivity and profitability but also to the
environmental aspects of the industries. Speaking
at a seminar 'PlastMart' organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry
(CII) in partnership with IDCO and IPICOL, he said the Plastic Cluster coming
up in the outskirts of Balasore will also have to work on creating positive
awareness on the advantages of using plastics against the age old belief of
plastic being a non-degradebale substance. He
also ensured full support to all Small Scale Industries (SSIs) and welcomed all
plastic industries from the eastern region to be a part of the Balasore cluster
and make optimum use of the facilities being built in there. Sundaray
emphasized on the benefits of the plastic industry, which has zero pollution,
minimum power consumption and can be started with the minimum amount of
investment.CII-North
Odisha Zonal Council Chairman SP Patnaik said IDCO and Team Orissa has
initiated the plastic cluster for MSME units, where IDCO will look after the
infrastructure and Team Orissa will act as the facilitator for investors. “CII
is working on the growth and development of the MSMEs through cluster
development, IP, technology and design intervention. Through consensus
meetings, CII has also started exploring possibilities of undertaking new
cluster interventions in the state,” he said.During
the programme, it was announced that the CII would create a help desk in
Balasore to address the concerns and queries of the MSMEs in the region.
Enhancing competitiveness of the MSMEs and the manufacturing sector through
quality and innovation, developing clusters, creating awareness, enhancing
knowledge and capacity building would be the focus area.Among
others, Director of MSME-DI Alok Ray, district collector Ranjit Mohanty,
Regional Director of CII-Eastern Region Saugat Mukherjee, former CII-North
Odisha Zonal Council Chairman Amit Behera, NOCCI president Devashish Mohanty
and Vice Chairman of North Odisha Zonal Council Ashish Agarwal also spoke.Later
a technical session on investment opportunities and improving market linkage
for plastic industry was also organized. The session was attended by Regional
Manager of Reliance Industry Rajat Chakraborty, Business Development Group
Senior Manager of Haldia Petrochemicals Ltd Suhan Ghosh, AGM-SME of State Bank
of India JP Sen, IDCO consultant Ananga Das, Secretary of Indian Plastics
Federation Pradip Nayar, CEO of Jagdamba Polymers Pvt Ltd CP Bhartia, Balasore
GM-DIC S Nayak, Associate Professor and In-Charge (HLC) of CIPET Dr SN Yadav
and Officer-Credit of Bank of Baroda Ram Prasad.
