A local court on Tuesday sentenced five persons to seven years of imprisonment after finding them guilty for acting as Maoist couriers and receiving arms from various locations and passing them on to insurgents.

A local court on Tuesday sentenced five persons to seven years of imprisonment after finding them guilty for acting as Maoist couriers and receiving arms from various locations and passing them on to insurgents.

The court also awarded three-year jail term to three others for supplying uniforms to Maoists.

After examining 45 witnesses, Additional District and Session Judge N D Tigala convicted Malti alias K S Priya, Meena Choudhary, Prafulla Jha, his son Pratik Jha and Siddharth Sharma and pronounced the judgment.

Three others - Dayaram Sahu, Naresh Khubanani and Ramesh Khubanani - were sentenced to three-year jail term for supplying uniforms to Maoists.
