'Fifth And Final Call': Bengal Chief Secretary Invites Junior Doctors To Meet Mamata Amid Talks Deadlock
Junior doctors, protesting against the RG Kar Hospital rape and murder case, are likely to meet Mamata Banerjee at her residence today evening.

In a letter to the junior doctors protesting against the rape and murder of a trainee medic at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, West Bengal Chief Secretary Manoj Pant has invited them again to meet Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday.

As per the contents of the letter, the doctors have been invited to Mamata Banerjee’s residence at Kalighat, at 5 pm today.

“This is the fifth and final time we are reaching out to you for a meeting between the Honourable Chief Minister and your delegates,” the letter read.

“In line with our discussion from the day before, we are once again inviting you to a meeting with the Honourable Chief Minister at her Kalighat residence for a discussion with an open mind,” it added.

The Chief Secretary also stressed there would be no live-streaming or videography of the meeting. He also said the same delegation which came for the last discussions should arrive at the venue.

The post-graduate trainee doctor was raped-murdered while on duty on August 9, triggering a nationwide outrage.

BJP REACTS

Soon after the letter was sent, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s IT cell chief, Amit Malviya, in an X post wrote that using ‘sub judice’ as the reason for declining the request for live streaming/videography is absolute trash.

“West Bengal Chief Secretary’s hurried letter to the protesting Junior Doctors’ is desperation, laced with overtones of intimidation. This attempt to reach out, just before the Supreme Court is to hear the matter, is yet another attempt to present a benign face before the Court,” Malviya wrote.

“Using ‘sub judice’ as the reason to decline request for live streaming/videography is absolute trash and smacks of a conspiracy,” he added.

“Doctors need to be wary of Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. She is evil and will use the meeting to her political advantage,” Malviya tweeted.

JUNIOR DOCTORS’ PROTEST

Junior doctors in West Bengal state have vowed to keep up their strike in protest against the incident unless their demands are met.

For their meeting with the Chief Minister, the doctors have been stressing a live-streaming before the media.

While demonstrations in other states have been gradually called off after the Supreme Court formed a hospital safety task force, doctors in the state have continued their protest.

Officials had earlier told news agencies that the protesters’ concerns, including additional CCTV coverage, deployment of female security personnel, adequate lighting, toilets, and resting spaces, were being addressed.

RALLIES CONTINUE

Meanwhile, rallies and demonstrations demanding justice for the raped-murdered RG Kar hospital doctor swept through the city on Sunday.

Retired Army officers, who were alumni of Purulia Sainik School, marched from Jadavpur 8B Bus Stand to Golpark in south Kolkata with placards in their hands amid rains.

In Wellington in the central part of the city, former students of Calcutta Girls’ High School took out a rally.

Hundreds of nurses held a rally at Karunamoyee in Salt Lake, seeking safety at the workplace.

In the evening, people gathered at Ruby Crossing-Patuli and Parnashree in Behala demanding the immediate arrest of everyone involved in the crime, including officials and police.
