Fake CBI official racket: one more arrested
Parveen Kaushik was produced before a court in New Delhi on Tuesday which remanded him in a day's CBI custody.

New Delhi: The CBI, probing into alleged murky dealings of a senior scientist of Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), arrested another person on the charge of taking money from a businessman after an unauthorised raid at his premises.

Parveen Kaushik was arrested late on Monday night and it is alleged that he had played the role of a middleman for senior scientific officer of CFSL AR Arora, who was posing as additional director of CBI, the probe agency said.

Kaushik was produced before a court in New Delhi on Tuesday which remanded him in a day's CBI custody.

According to the CBI, Kaushik was sent by Arora to a businessman whose premises were subjected to an unauthorised and illegal raid by the scientist with the help of Shiv Charan, an assistant in the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, an official of Central Excise and one Manish Sharma.

The three had introduced themselves as public servants with powers to carry out search operations, and after the raid, they demanded an illegal gratification from the businessman to abate the search proceedings and allegedly received huge amount as bribe, a CBI spokesperson said.

According to the CBI, Kaushik was sent to the businessman to collect Rs 4 lakh out of which the CBI has recovered Rs 3 lakh so far.

Both Charan and Sharma were arrested along with Arora on Sunday for allegedly entering into a criminal conspiracy to cheat people by posing as CBI officials and demanding bribe.

The CBI had also claimed to have recovered Rs 3 lakh from Arora's residence.
