A court instructed a school teacher arrested on prohibition charges to do a peon's duty for a week.

New Delhi: Seven years after the incident, a court in Dahod in Gujarat instructed a school teacher arrested on prohibition charges to do a peon's duty for a week.

A Science and Math teacher at the Bhimbhori village Madhyamik Shala, Pankaj Parmar, was ordered to do community service in the school as a peon by district judge R M Parma.

His duties for a week as a peon included sweeping and mopping the school premises and serving water to the students and teachers.

Seven years ago, Parmar was caught in an inebriated state in the school premises and a complaint was lodged against him by the Principal.

A teacher at the school for the last 12 years, the 38-year-old was first sentenced after his arrest for 15 days imprisonment and fined Rs 250.

He, however, appealed against this order and had been waiting for the case to come to court.
