Srinagar: As the anti-terror operations continue in Papmore area of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, the Entrepreneurship Development Institute building, where terrorists are holed up, has been set on fire.

The number of terrorists holed up inside the building is still not known. "One militant was killed in Pampore encounter", an official said. Five soldiers - three Army paratroopers and two CRPF jawans - and a civilian have lost their lives.

The encounter began as terrorists opened fire on a CRPF convoy on Saturday afternoon. The terrorists then took shelter inside the EDI building, triggering a stand off.

Nearly 100 civilians -- staff and students of EDI -- were evacuated to safety by the security forces from the building, a police official said.

"They open fired at us and when our troops retaliated, they hid in the building. Can't say for sure, but there were about 2-4 people. Everyone was evacuated safely from the building. There is a possibility this was pre-planned," said CRPF PRO Bhavesh Kumar.

Earlier in the day, 22-year-old Captain Pawan Kumar of 10 Paras was martyred in the operation. He led his men from the front with barely three years of service. He had already been in two successful operations earlier in which three terrorists were killed.

A wreath laying ceremony for Captain Pawan Kumar was held in Srinagar. Final salute was also given to the two CRPF Jawans -- Head Constable RK Rana and Bhola Singh.
