MANGALORE: Even before the first vote for the Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha by- election was cast, technological aids were incorporated to ensure organised flow of information.Under SIMPLEE-K system, a special control room was activated which in every 10 to 15 seconds will send messages to over 2,200 pre-registered users comprising sector police officers, supervisors and senior police officials overseeing 1,633 polling booths across eight Assembly units.“The system supports two-way flow of information with the control room receiving incoming messages on votes polled and any untoward incidents from the registered users, “ said IGP (Western Range) Pratap Reddy while familiarising mediapersons with SIMPLEE K at his office on Saturday. With SIMPLEE K nearly 5,000 messages were delivered within 10 seconds, Reddy added. The system is not vulnerable to hacking and is also immune to server crashes. Where the mobile network is not accessible, sector police officials overlooking 30 to 35 polling booths can compile information and send them to control room. SIMPLEE K’s applications prompted Reddy to integrate the technology after elections for the western range on an experimental basis. “The data of 5,424 police personnel in 90 police stations under western rage was created,” he said. He added with the SIMPLEE K any particular group or assignment can be created.“With the system we have plans to accept public complaints,” he said.Smart Information Messenger for public and law enforcement engagement Karnataka (SIMPLEE) was coined by Assistant Superintendent of police Puttur Division M N Anuchet.
