DVS, wife summoned in land case

The Lokayukta Court on Tuesday issued summons to former chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda, his wife Datty and another person on a complaint alleging that they constructed a building on “government land” and got another site under the discretionary quota (G Category). Judge N K Sudhindra Rao directed them to appear before the court on October 12.

On September 10, the court had taken cognisance of the complaint filed by one Nagalakshmi Bai alleging that in 2008, Datty had purchased 7.5 guntas (one gunta is about 1,086 square feet) of “gomala” land (plot reserved for grazing purpose) at Bagalur village, Jala Hobli, in Bangalore North, without proper documents.

Nagalakshmi Bai had also submitted that Gowda subsequently constructed a two-storey building spread over 8,700 sq ft, flouting the City Corporation and Bangalore Development Authority rules.

The complainant alleged that while declaring his assets and liabilities to the Election Commission, Gowda, who was then an MP, showed details of the purchase of land but not of the building constructed on it. Even after he became the chief minister, Gowda did not declare that a building was constructed on the land.

The BJP leader also allegedly got 10 cents (around 4,350 sq ft) of land in Puttur under ‘G’ category during his tenure as MLA in 1998.

Nagalakshmi asked for a probe into the issue under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the IPC.
