TIRUCHY: Comparing the scenario in Tamil Nadu five decades ago with the present circumstances, DMK treasurer M K Stalin said the party needed youth with the love for their mother-tongue and the Tamil race.Endorsing the opinion of DMK Rajya Sabha leader N Siva who said the love for Tamil and Tamil race had dwindled among the youth in the State, Stalin said the DMK came to power riding on Tamil sentiments after the anti-Hindi agitation and the student uprising in the sixties.He was speaking before holding an interview for selecting party functionaries to lead the youth wing in the district.Youth with an ideological leaning should be selected and trained to lead the youth wing, he said.Recalling the formation of the youth wing in the party, Stalin said DMK leader M Karunanidhi was reluctant to nominate him for the post of youth wing leader. However, party general secretary K Anbazhagan was firm in nominating Stalin as a member in a committee to form the youth wing.
