The AIADMK has urged the Centre to dismiss the Union Territory government, led by the AINRC, for having failed in its duty of maintaining law and order in the UT.
AIADMK’s Puducherry unit secretary and MLA, A Anbazhagan, told reporters here on Monday, that the Centre should intervene as the UT government was not taking any steps to check the deteriorating law and order situation in Puducherry.
Anbazhagan charged that the Chief Minister N Rangasamy did not even hold a review meeting to take stock of the law and order after a gang of rowdies attacked a police van, killing a criminal and injuring five policemen.
Saying Puducherry is fast becoming a “crime city”, the AIADMK leader charged that the criminals were bold enough to carry out their designs as the UT government did not take any action to check their criminal activities in the past.
Anbazhagan added that the opposition parties have raised the deterioration of law and order on the floor of the assembly as well as outside, but to no avail.
Anbazhagan demanded a CBI probe into the attack under the monitoring of a Madras High Court judge.
He said the circumstances in which the gang carried out the attack and the police’s inaction needs to be probed thoroughly as the murder has raised several question marks.
Anbazhagan also alleged that the police have flawed in providing protection while escorting the prisoner.
Claiming that people, who are now in constant fear, have lost faith in the police, the AIADMK leader said the entire police department should be revamped.
He added that there were allegations of police-criminal nexus in the past.
Anabazhagan said minister of state in PMO V Narayanasamy should have requested the Central government to act against the UT government, which has erred in maintaining the law and order situation.
