Demand good governance from politicians

PUDUCHERRY: People should demand good governance from politicians instead of holding them to ransom for some immediate benefits, Chiaef Secretary M Sathiavathy said here on Tuesday.“There is need to change the attitude of the people to bring in a change in the system. This would bring in a lot of change in governance, she said addressing a seminar on Panchayati Raj organised on the occasion of the 44th anniversary of the Indian Institute of Public Administration, Puducherry branch. The Chief Secretary said she had been ‘in and out’ of the Puducherry administration for various periods and it was sad to note that there had been a steady deterioration in general administration.“People( Administrators) have lost motivation and accountability has also been lost, said the Chief SecretaryAll of us are responsible for this,” she said and added  “the deterioration will affect us all, if we don’t change.”On the role of panchayats in rural development, she said the local bodies would ring in changes at the grassroot level.Pointing to the 33 per cent reservation for the women in the local bodies, the said that husbands of those elected women were pulling the strings from behind, but the time was not far when all the 33 per cent would become true leaders.
