Delhi Witnesses Rain Amid Record-breaking Heat, Monsoon To Reach Kerala In Next 24 Hrs | Weather Updates

In a big respite for the Delhiites from the scorching heat, the national capital on Wednesday witnessed light-intensity showers amid the ongoing heatwave. The rainfall is likely to lower the mercury that touched 52.3 degree Celsius today making Delhi record the highest-ever temperature the country has experienced.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday predicted light-intensity rain and winds over parts of the national capital during the next two hours.

“Light intensity rain/drizzle and winds with speed of 20-30 Km/h would occur over and adjoining areas of isolated places of Delhi and NCR, Kharkhoda, Jhajjar, Sohana, Palwal, Nuh, Aurangabad, Hodal (Haryana) Jattari, Khair (UP) during next 2 hours,” the weather agency predicted.

Delhi Records Highest-ever Temperature In India

Just two hours after Delhi recorded the country’s highest-ever temperature at 52.3 degrees Celsius, the national capital received showers, bringing some relief from the extreme heat. The weather station in Delhi’s Mungeshpur on Wednesday recorded India’s hottest-ever day with 52.3 degree Celsius at 2.30 pm.

In addition to this, it is noteworthy that other areas that reported extremely high temperatures are in Rajasthan which recorded over 50 degree Celsius. Sirsa in Haryana also recorded 50.3 degree Celsius.

Rainfall Over Next 5 Days

IMD has also predicted isolated to moderate rainfall over Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha over the next five days accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph).

Notably, the agency stated that heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in most to many parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh on May 29. However, after that, there will be a gradual reduction in the temperature in isolated or some parts till June 1.

Monsoon To Hit Kerala

Monsoon is expected to make onset over Kerala and some parts of northeast India during the next 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday. The development is also expected to bring relief to the prevailing heat wave conditions over northwest and central India.

The weather forecasting agency said that the conditions continue to become favourable for Monsoon onset over Kerala during the next 24 hours and advance of monsoon over some parts of northeastern states during the same period.
