New Delhi: A 25-year-old woman jumped off a flyover in East Delhi's Madhu Vihar area on Tuesday evening after her boyfriend asked her to prove her love for him, and suffered grave injuries, police said.
According to the police, the incident took place around 7 pm when the woman, identified as Anita, met Wasim on the flyover.
"The woman had come down from Agra to meet him after one of her friends told her about Wasim being engaged to another girl in Delhi and she saw his pictures with another girl on a mobile application. Angry over this, she came to Delhi to meet him," Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Ajay Kumar said.
Anita reached Wasim's workplace in the evening and later they met on the flyover where they had a heated argument.
"While arguing, Wasim asked her to prove her love by jumping off the flyover and Anita jumped off on impulse. The woman said she jumped as she was asked to prove her love," Kumar said.
Wasim works at a mobile phone showroom in Ghazipur and the two knew each other for the last five years.
The woman had moved to Agra a year ago as her mother was unwell. Police have taken Wasim into custody, Kumar said.
